Worthwhile Summers

day29d

This summer is just flying by like crazy!!!  I love it!!  But I wish I could make it slow down just a bit more.  Every weekend it seems like I'm trying to shove as much summer time fun into my day as possible, but its so hard!! Real life will catch with me over the weekend and I'll end up just sitting around twiddling my thumbs.  This weekend is a little more exciting than all that, but not much.  As soon as the weather cools down a little more I still plan on walking up a light house, going back to the beach and seeing a baseball game.

The best part about summer though is wearing all these light colored clothes I've been saving up.  This skirt was in my mend pile for three whole months and just last week I decided to get cracking on my mend pile of summer clothes.  Now it's my favorite skirt!  It's super light weight and the fabric is perfect.  And since its a pretty cream color, it goes with everything in my wardrobe.  I still have a bunch more stuff to get mended though, so I know what I'll be doing over my weekend.  More sewing!!  It's a good thing I enjoy doing it.

Oh, What a Lark!!!

day27e

Today was a lark!!  Does anyone still say that?  If not, I'm sure I can bring it back.  Anyways, Wednesdays have turned into Totally Thriftastic!!!  I always have fun hunting for cute vintage that I can turn into something cool.  This particular excursion was very fruitful in the shoes department though.  Two pairs of never worn heels and one of those pairs were Crown Vintage.  They are absolutely the cutest things ever and for only $2 it couldn't be beat.

And here I am wearing a dress that usually befuddles me.  I like it a lot, but it just doesn't seem to lend itself well to accessories.  When I try to wear more with it, it just starts to feel cluttered.  So I kept it simple with some burgundy platform pumps and some jewelry.  Does anyone have any tips on how they would style this dress?

Self Reflections

day23f

I've found myself complaining too much about the weather and the heat.  Couldn't there be something worse than the hot weather for me to worry about?  I find it so trivial since the unraveling of the latest current events.  It's making me ponder some of the things that I'm more grateful for, such as life, friends, love, family, and just the little things.  We all take certain things for granted, and its time I start to realize what I do have that I should just be thankful for.  And I should try not to be caught up in cynicism.  I'm very cynical by nature but most people should know to take what I say with a grain of salt.

day23c
day23b

Anyways, those were some of my more deeper thoughts from the day.  My other thoughts of the day included how the heck do I expect myself to clean out my closet, if I can never get motivated enough to do so.  Or, what should I make for dinner that will only take about 10 minutes? (answer to that one included ordering a pizza) or what seems to be making my dog Starla so sad lately?  She seriously hasn't been the same since she ate that butter.  She's still recovering and its been two weeks now.  She has about another week of antibiotics and then she goes back to her checkup.

Thanks for letting me ramble about stuff that has remotely nothing to do with my outfit.  I just wore what I felt comfortable in for the day and let the clothes speak for themselves, I guess.  But I do want to give a shout out to the maker of the cute antique coin ring, MaieDae.  This ring is a lot of fun, and I love the vintage quality to it.

Sweating Patchouli

 day24d

Is it a dress or a top?  I think my friend Ashley told me she used to play this game in Forever21 or somewhere like that.  These are the clothes which you're just not sure whether its for a small child or a scandalous lady who enjoys having almost all of her legs exposed.  Take this, for what I assume to be a tunic, for example.  I picked it up in the vintage section at the thrift store and pondered for a moment if I could indeed wear it as a dress.  I could imagine myself wearing it as a tent dress with sandals and just soaking up the summer sun whilst sipping on a cool drink.

Sadly, this was totally not fit for being worn as a dress.  I was saddened at first but figured I'd go balls to the walls hippie and wear my biggest bell bottoms with it and some chunky platforms to bring out the late sixties vibe from the handmade tunic.  It worked to my advantage I think.  It was even a perfect outfit to wear in the 110 degree heat, because the clothes barely touched my body.

Anyways, that is the long winded story of my outfit.  As for the rest of the story, I wore this look out to visit my friend Brittany for coffee at this new little cafe called Cafe Stella.  Oh my goodness, I've never had such awesome coffee.  It was so so good.  I ordered myself a french pressed iced coffee (my fave drink at the moment) and a delicious vegetarian frittata.  And just look at the pretty set up they have!!  The eclectic decor was charming, to say the least.  If you live in Norfolk or in the Ghent neighborhood I'd definitley point you to Cafe Stella for an excellent brewed cup of coffee.

The Candy Bar Factor

day22d

I didn't believe that 75 cents could look so good.  I mean this dress cost me less than a candy bar!!  A candy bar!!  And when the hell did candy bars become so expensive?  I looked yesterday just to make sure my reference was correct, and in fact a plain ole regular sized Hershey bar is 88 cents at the moment.  So think about that.  That is just ludicrous.

Anyways, I found this dress on Wednesday while thrifting with some friends and luckily none of them noticed it:)  I think it's from the 80s, but the shape is remincient to the cuts of the 50s.  It was a tad too long so I chopped it (like all my other thrifted skirts and dresses) and it turned into something I'll wear all summer.  It's so light and comfy and the print is darling.  Plus it received quite a few compliments, so I think it was a well worth the 75 cents I paid for it.

As for the other things I thrifted on my ritual Wednesdays, I found a gorgeous 60s floral print table cloth, an awesome 60s tunic, a couple of blouses, and a fantastic avocado green skillet.  I'm beginning to hoard collect vintage cookware.  I figure that since teflon is illegal in nearly every other country due to its carcinogenic properties, I best be cooking with stainless steel cookware from the 70s.

Humid with a Chance of Fuzzy

day21c

Has anyone else experience such intense humidity that it totally affects the way your camera lens focuses?  I can't believe how foggy my pictures have been turning out lately.  It's just so hot and we're so close to the ocean that it pretty much stays cloudy all the time and then the moisture just floats around causing a constant hazziness.  So pardon the extreme foggy and blurry pics during this hot summer month.  If anyone knows of a filter or something let me know:)

To combat some of the fogginess, I decided to do my pictures inside for a change.  I absolutely loved this outfit, despite how simple the color palette was, and wanted to photograph it.  The skirt was this homely looking skirt I spotted at the thrift store and decided to chop off its length to something more flattering.  The color, fabric and cute waist detail were just perfect for me.  I then mixed in a black top and threw on my trusty red leather belt.  This belt is going to save a ton of my outfits.  I love the pretty tooled details in it.

Wacky Wednesdays!

day19d

This outfit is quite different for me and I am not sure how I feel about it either.  This is the first time since highschool I'm wearing a maxi skirt and I guess its just one of those things you get used to.  The way I styled the skirt made me feel as if I was transported as an extra to an episode of the Torkelsons...by the way...anyone remember that show?  I loved it!!  So maybe I can grow to love this outfit.  I do love the mix of the chambray blouse with it.

I hope you all have a lovely hump day.  I love Wednesdays almost as much as I love Saturdays.  My friend and I have our weekly routine where she picks me up from work and then we hit up some thrift stores and then Mexican.  It's always an excellent time!

Summer Wishes and Light Layers

day18e

Light layers were a welcomed treat for my Sunday outfit.  I have been unearthing some wonderful items from my wardrobe that I just wasn't sure about, and this chiffon thingy was one of those items.  I guess it's a sort of cardigan, I'm not quite sure, but it was the perfect thing to pair with a lace blouse and trouser shorts.
