What a Day Its Been

 day16f

What a day!!  I won't bother you with the details, but suffice it to say I was exhausted by the end of it. At least I have pleasant memories of Saturday I can look back on:)  On Saturday I finally got to wear this light weight summer sweater I've had mulling around in my dresser for months.  It's just been too darn hot for it, and finally the oppressive heat has broken!!   It was a nice casual look for a quick trip to the farmers market and to a cafe for some much needed coffee.

I'm not quite sure that anything really goes together in this outfit but I really liked the colors all together.  The browns, blues and yellow seemed to compliment well.  When in doubt, just throw on a ton of different colors and then see what looks the best!  And bonus points are due to the fact that I finally wore that darn sweater that I've been wanting to wear forever:)

Dumpter Diving

day13b

So I gotta confess a little secret.  I not only thrift my clothes, I also dumpster dive for my clothes.  My friend Tatum and I decided to do a bit of dumpster diving (don't worry it wasn't a dirty dumpster) a few weeks ago and came back with some good treasures.  One of the treasures was a bag of clothes and shoes:)  We rummaged through and found out that the dumping person had her sized feet and my size tops.  So I took the obviously never worn American Apparel tank and she took everything else.  In her defense, she just got back from a very long trip to South America and had sold and/or given away everything.  I have no defense.  I needed a new top like another hole in the head.

Now, I'll be completely honest again, and let you all know I would never ever ever buy anything brand new from AA.  They may toot their own horn for American made clothes and fair wages and what not, but their ads sort of disgust me, as does the CEO.  If they had a different sort of campaign that didn't glamourize barely legal soft core porn, than maybe I'd feel differently and buy their products since they are the best damn t-shirts I've ever felt, but until then I won't shop there.  Dumpster dive yes, shop there no.

Neutral Territory

day11g

I swear that my olive green button down shirt is the best dollar I've spent all year.  It goes with everything.  I've always been a strong believer that olive green is by far the best neutral.  It's right up there with cognac.  Anyways, I made my outfit quite different from my last by incorporating darker tones together.  Black and olive seem to work for me.  Plus I happened to receive my new Blowfish shoes today so everything seemed to go together even more seamlessly.  I couldn't wait to wear these!!

These new wedges are absolutely the most comfortable things I've put on my feet in weeks!!  As far as high wedges go anyhow.  I'll enjoy stomping around NYC in September when I do Fashion Night Out.  I may regret this later, but so far working an eight hour day in these shoes seemed fine.  And I have a bit of an "arm party" going on today.  PS..I hate the term "arm party", so that will be the last time I use that slogan.  Anyways, I decided to take a stab at making a friendship bracelet again while on my lunch break and it was like riding a bike!!  I just sort of remembered how to do it!!  I can't wait to buy more floss and get crackin on more of these things!!

Changing it Up

 day8

I am currently having one of those spells where I need to change all of my surroundings.  It's getting a little intense, but I am just craving to have a more cohesive look to my apartment.  This means indoor gardens, newish furniture, and do it yourself projects.  I'm such a finicky person when it comes to keeping a certain aesthetic, but I have been a lover of anything mid century modern for about three years now, so that's the look I'm heading with my living space.  And Zach's along for the ride too!!  He loves it as much as I do.  Although, my kitchyness isn't anything he's too fond of.  He's more minimalist.  Anywho, this has nothing to do with what I'm wearing.  I just felt like sharing a bit of my life with you all.  Would you all like me to share some of the diys I've been working on?  I've gotten some feedback already but could use some more:)

My outfit is something I threw on when I didn't know quite what to wear.  I sort of thought I'd put together a few different colors and then realized I had gone with primary colors!  It's sort of preschool when the colors are bold and bright, so I chose different shades of blue, red, and yellow and I think it worked out well!  And then I did my photos in front of this abandoned little building (not quite sure what it used to be) and I kind of fell in love with the location.  I might do my pictures back there more often.  Or on second thought maybe not.  There were tons of broken beer and whiskey bottles in that area, so I'm sure vagrants like to hang out there alone.  Not with a style blogger.

Second-Hand Vintage

day7f

It seems as though Monday decided to rear its ugly head this morning.  Mondays are just ghastly after a wonderfully carefree weekend.  I basically kept my weekend busy with simple DIYs and some more complex furniture refurbishment.  It's was busy, I spent no money and most importantly it was fun.  I even carved out some time to watch Coco Loves Ice (judge if you will).  So now Monday is here in all its glory and I'll be forced to smile sweetly at banking patrons who insist on saying, "You gotta case of the Mondays?"  I won't slap them, but I'll think about it;)

For the better part of my weekend I decided to wear a pretty vintage dress that my friend Brittany from All This Weird Beauty gave me.  It was given to her from Annie from Friendly Fox Vintage, and then she passed it on to me!  Thank you Brittany!! I really love this dress.  Yet again I'm wearing white this week, but its just the best thing to wear right about now.  We're in the thick humid part of Virginia and a cool loose fitting white dress is just what the doctor ordered.  I paired it with my pretty (new with tags) Crown Vintage shoes and a slender yellow snakeskin belt.   Now I extend a question to anyone who may be vegan or vegetarian what their stance is on wearing animals whether vintage or not.  I was absolutely certain this belt was made with real snake when I purchased it at a thrift store.  It called my name from across the store and I didn't even bat an eyelash at its $10 price tag...At a Thrift Store?  I kinda feel guilty about it but its vintage, right?

To My Best Gal Lucy

 day6b

So far, it's been a pleasant Saturday.  It's a gorgeous summers day, we took the dogs to the dog park where they played with about ten or so other dogs, and then I found out it was Lucille Ball's what would have been 100th birthday!!!  Her shows were constantly in my life to cheer me up, so what better way to celebrate then to watch about 5 hours worth of I Love Lucy?  She was truly ahead of her time in relation to women in comedy, so I have always looked up to her as an inspirational woman.  Her wardrobe was also quite the inspiration for me too.  I remember wishing women still dressed like that when I would watch the shows when I was young.  She was just so classy!

And as far as my wardrobe is concerned, I decided to give my dresses and skirts a rest for the weekend and enjoy a more casual look.  I had these shorts lying around and thought to pair them with this new thrifted blouse I picked up a couple of weeks ago.  It's a sheer dolman sleeved shirt made by KORET by the 70s.  Then I paired it simply with some sandals and a wooded bead necklace.  A simple, yet thought out look, is a great way to dress yourself when you want to be comfortable while watching hours of I Love Lucy.

Rough

day4d

Oh my goodness!!  Today was quite exhausting.  It was one of those days that you knew you really looked like poo.  I had a customer ask me if I had a rough night.  I mean, did I look that bad?  haha...Although I did stay out much later than my bedtime.  Going to bed around midnight is quite late for me....since I'm a grandma or something.  Anywho, I'm starting to feel a little bit better and I'm gearing up for a quiet evening which involves salsa, tortillas, and a Mexican lasagna.  That should perk me up and brighten my spirits.  And if all else fails, I'm also watching Wet Hot American Summer.  That'll cure me.

Aside from my incurable blabbing, I'm also trying to dress myself well for a day where I look like crap.  Thus the sunglasses.  I'm wearing this pretty vintage polyester skirt that I found in a vintage thrift store (yes my thrift store has a designated vintage section) for about $2.  I wanted the skirt to be the main focus, so I paired it with my nice white blouse and threw in some cognac accessories for good measure.
