Holiday Blogger Party!!

DSC_0046

I always love to host small groups of friends and bloggers!!  My apartment has cozy living quarters so it makes for fun intimate gatherings.  So of course I hopped on the opportunity to do a blogger holiday party!!!  I love decorating and cooking and booze, so why not?!  Just to be clear, the only reason why I love booze so much is because I found out you can buy cake batter vodka.  Huh, what?!!  Which can then be used to make Root Beer Float Martinis!!

So without further adieu, here are some photos from the evening and I'll be including links to everyone's blogs at the end.

Oh it was lots of fun playing Dirty Santa where we'd get to open and/or steal other's gifts :)  I received a cute little voodoo doll while others received copies of "How Starbucks Fought for It's Life Without Losing It's Soul" or even fabulous Lush bath products.

Stylish Blogger Picnic in NYC

picnic8

Want to know what my favorite part of New York City was?  Uh, how about everything!!  So many people, so much to do, and the vibe of the city is absolutely the best part.  I enjoy noisy streets, lots of people, different kinds of culture and the abundance of restaurants.  I think I was able to hit every part of town throughout the city and had so much fun beating the pavement in my practical flat shoes....much different than the last time I came to the city in heels the whole time...rookie mistake.

These pictures were taken on Saturday at the Blogger Picnic meet up at Sheep Meadow Central Park.  It was so fun to meet bloggers, readers, and then their respected spouses or boyfriends.  It was a nice mix of people and I enjoyed hearing all the reasons why blogging has become a part of our lives.  It's a great way to communicate and connect with people, in my opinion, and when we can all meet in real life it just makes it that more better!!  Plus its just a good feeling to know that you can finally hug a really good friend who you met on the internet.

I Shead a Tear over a Tear

 denim jacket

Hello folks!  This outfit is so bitter sweet to me.  Let me explain.  First I was wearing the most beautiful white eyelet wrap dress I've ever found.  It fit perfectly, had the best shade of white, and was a very retro inspired dress shape.  It looked fantastic!!  I also refashion a vintage slip to wear underneath it and then ironed out the dress to make sure it looked just right.  And then, as I was leaving the bedroom, my dress caught on a piece of a door lock and ripped.  I seriously cried tears.  It's just a dress, but something about it just seemed like the perfect summer time frock.  And it was the perfect day to give it a go.  Anyways, Zach helped compose me and suggested I wear this dress.

Although I had hoped for the perfect spring/summer frock to wear while vintage shopping, I still had a nice summer dress waiting in the wings.  All I had to do was switch up my jewelry and I was good to go.  Oh and throw on a denim jacket since I'm a weirdo and hate wearing strapless dresses.  I feel half naked walking around without something on my shoulders! haha!!

All in all it was fantastic day full of warm sunshine, taking a trip to Williamsburg with Rebecca, and then later biking with Zach to a cute park in Norfolk and then to a new beer joint called The Birch.  Of course The Birch would've been closed since it was Easter weekend.  So I guess we'll have to fill our growler another day.

I am going to try and fix this dress tomorrow.  It's about a 2 inch rip right through the eyelets and hopefully I can give it a try.  Crossing my fingers!!

Relaxation is My Middle Name

H&M Dress

Well not really, but in my world weekends are meant to be about relaxation and just chilling out.  That is usually not the case, but this weekend proved to be very relaxing and fun.  Saturday I got up early so Zach and I could walk to a yummy breakfast.  It was also my excuse to have us walk to a particular location for my outfit photos...hehe.. I am sneaky that way.

Anyways, I wanted to have a pretty but laid back kind of outfit since it was Saturday and I was going to be spending the better part of my day with Rebecca from The Clothes Horse watching Waterloo Bridge.  This outfit seemed like the perfect choice for the day, but unfortunately while I was pumping gas I ended up getting gasoline all over myself (I'm so clumsy its not even funny) so I ended up changing into something different.  But at least I got photos of my outfit before I did that!

Oh and the meetup/movie day was lots of fun.  I really enjoy watching older films and since Rebecca lives close to where I live, it seemed like a great opportunity to meet up, chat, and enjoy a good movie about women who make bad life decisions (disclaimer, it seems like most movies from the 30s and 40s era are quite the downers)  Anywho, it's always fun meeting up with people who share similar interests and hobbies which is why fashion blogging is so much fun.  You get to connect with amazing people in your online community and if you can do it in person, than that's even better!

The rest of my weekend will be spent with Zach and we'll be meeting some married friends of ours for a nice little tea time.  Tea sandwiches, tea, and I may bring something sweet to share.  And music.  It should be a pretty awesome day:)

Day 19 Wintry Weekend

day19c

Talk about a full fun weekend! I have to say, one of the best parts of blogging is meeting all the wonderful people who participate in the lifestyle/style blogging community. A few weeks ago I decided it would be fun to get some of the local Virginian-based bloggers together and have a little movie viewing with tea and cookies. Amanda from Another's Treasure and Rebecca from The Clothes Horse were both able to make it and I'm so glad we got to know each other a little better. We enjoyed the film The African Queen and then talked shop about blogging and fashion interests and a little bit about our day to day lives. All in all it was a great way to spend an afternoon and I hope we can all do it again and have more local bloggers who are able to make it.

Aside from Saturday's activities, Zach and I got to spend an afternoon with Zach's mom. We decided to take her out to lunch for her birthday and then later on my mother in law and I got to spend the afternoon crafting Christmas goodies. I'm pretty much a Christmas junkie so making my own gifts this year is one of the highlights of my month. Another highlight to my month so far, has to be the pretty white stuff that is on my parent's deck. On Saturday night we were surprised by a little tiny snow storm and I decided it would be a nice little backdrop for a wintry outfit post. I tried to dress in layers to make sure I'd be warm today so I threw on a long sleeve vintage blouse, my boyfriend cardigan, jeggings and of course some comfy tall boots.

Pho79 and a Good Friend

Brittany from Finder's Keepers is a new friend whom I met through the wonderful world of the fashion blogging. We met up about a month ago for some yummy coffee. Yesterday we decided to meet up for some yummy Pho noodles at Pho79 and then we went off for some fun thrifting at the Salvation Army. The noodles were way yummy, but I was having some difficulties eating the dish. Unless your a professional like Brittany, you're gonna make a mess. I was trying to do my best and be a lady, but at some point you just have to throw your worries away and just dig in!

The thrifting was so much fun! We found lots of stuff to try on, but I only ended up buying half of what I picked up. I got 3 fantastic dresses and a striped boat neck t-shirt, while Brittany found an amazing vintage coat that was destined to be hers. It was gorgeous! All in all it was fabulous time with a new friend and I'm sure there will be plenty more of these excursions to come!

Here's what I ended up wearing for the day! Half of it I spent just lounging with my dog since I got off work early.

So you may have noticed the shoes. I went a little crazy shopping for shoes after I broke my ankle boots. Sometimes I pay so little for shoes, it's never cost effective to have them fixed, so I just try to find others in my price range. Yesterday I meandered over to the mall to check out the shoe collection Forever21 had, and was not impressed with their selection or their quality. I saw glue all over one pair where the sole was attached. So I checked out Payless and they had 1 pair for $12! "Very good!", I thought to myself. As I'm exiting the store I turn to my left and see this huge clearance shoe event in Dillards. I was a bad girl and got myself another 2 pairs of shoes, with the intention of saving them for next winter. HA!!! Whatever! These oxfords lasted 3 hours in the box before I took them out for my dinner with Brittany. Then I bought a new pair of ankle boots. Those will make their debut tomorrow. Until then!

The Night on the Town

Nothing about me screams party girl, but on Saturday night I decided it would definitely be worth my while to head out to the after party for the Chictopia10 summit and meet some new girls that I hadn't had a chance to introduce myself to. It was fun! I laughed at our crazy dancing, and apparently we got free drinks! hmmm... some concoction of mandarin oranges and vodka did my body good after a 6 hour long conference! Everyone was incredibly nice and we all had tons of things to talk about, although it was so loud I decided it was best to just start smiling and dancing.

So, of course this is Elizabeth and Andrea boogieing down! I have to say that they were pretty awesome dancers.

Christina
and I taking a photo after talking for a bit. Her and her husband are total cuties. And her outfit was amazing! I forgot to ask her where she found such an awesome skirt.

The four of us taking time out for more photos. I guess I should mention that Zach was made desegnated photo taker. He did a good job and I know he loved it! Photography is one of his first loves.
More pics of the girls getting down and enjoying the fun times. The girl I was taking a photo of is Mellisa from Crowded Closet that she collaborates with Kim (not pictured). They were really nice girls and had such a fun style going on.

Tieka and I doing our photo opt. Tieka was so much fun to meet in person. We definitely have a lot in common as far as blogging but also the music scene. We were definitely not in tune to the club scene music so we kinda just did the typical sway side to side to the beat thing. I maybe knew one song that was nastagic to my middle school dance, which was nice:)

Nickie and Christina in a candid shot I took. I love these kinds of photos!
