Getting Dressy

Today I had a little more time to get myself together for work. I wanted to go for a monochromatic look but with a muted pop of color. My green satin and lace skirt was perfect for this look. I guess I looked a lot more dressy today, since a customer commented on how I looked and asked if I was going to the ball. I said, "nope, just here at work and then off to take my final". Sometimes I feel out of my element when people start commenting on why I get so dressed up. Since I work at a bank, why don't I shop at The Limited and New York and Company like everyone else? People ask me that all the time. Or they ask, "why don't you wear pants?" They assume that I'm part of a religious cult or something, but pants are just uncomfortable to me. I'm starting to get tired of the repeated questions, but as long as I feel good and look good, I'll keep dressing up for the heck of it.

The Morning Craze

Ok, it's Monday, I'm not ready to get out of bed. I fall back asleep and the next thing I realize it's time to go!!! I had 30 minutes to get ready, make my lunch, put my pup in her cave, and then pick my outfit. I'm not totally in love with the outfit. I felt a little too exposed in the short skirt, but I was seriously running late and threw on the first basic black skirt I had that wasn't wrinkled. I hate mornings like these and I hope I don't have another one like it. It was just too crazy.

Talk about Busy! Warning..Two Posts in One

So far this weekend I've studied my brains off for a Global Business test and did a whole lotta decorating and shopping. Yesterday I kept my look casual since I was going to be busy decorating my church for Christmas. The tree took 4 hours to put up since it's about 25 feet tall. Zach and I had fun helping and I got to meet lots of new church members since most of the volunteers go to an 11 am service, while I go to the 8 am service.

After all that was said and done, Zach and I headed over to my friends Jewelry Bazaar. She was holding it at work and I came away with so many pretty treasures. She used to buy bags of jewelry from thrift stores with the intention to sell them on Ebay, but she sort of got carried away with it all and ended up with 4 large trash bags full of costume, gold and silver. I'm so glad I went and got to see all that she was selling. It reminded me of a museum show.

Today I spent the day studying and then headed out to my local thrift store to buy my holiday outfit. I plan on wearing this to a work Christmas party, Christmas Eve service, and to a Christmas dinner held at a family friend's home. The skirt is actually a vintage piece that absolutely fell in love with, and almost missed it. Then I found a basic white button down from Tommy Hilfiger, then a perfect teal/green belt with gold hardware. My rhinestone necklace was a find at my friend's jewelry bazaar. I can't wait until I get to wear all these pretty things!

Oh and that's not all. I also found time to bake an apple pie. I wish I had used some store bought pie dough, but I ended up making homemade dough. I just hope it tastes as good as it looks. Sometime looks can be deceiving with my cooking.

Oh and here is what I wore today. I wanted to be more dressy, since Zach and I were taking his Mom out for birthday dinner.

Nothing Like a Casual Friday

Wearing dressy clothes has never bothered me when it came to dressing up for my job. I really enjoy it. We do have casual Fridays, which entails wearing a dowdy bank polo and a pair of tan khakis. And if we really wanna "soccer-mom-it-up", then we add the white sneakers. Seriously, we have to wear white sneakers. So, in order for me not to embarrass my sense of style, I refuse to observe casual Fridays. Unless it's for a company sponsored charity drive. Today we got to wear jeans to work if we pledged $1 for the food bank plus 3 cans of food. I decided, why not! I even threw on my favorite pair of chucks, to keep it even more casual. Which I'm glad I wore the sneakers, since I was the one who got to put the Christmas tree up. Lucky me! I had so much fun doing it.

Fashioning Antiques

A few weeks ago some friends and I went antiquing on the Eastern Shore, and it was probably the most fun I had antiquing. I found a great pin for fifty cents and this awesome hat. I'm surprised my friend 'D' and I didn't get in a fight over this hat, since she is a collector of vintage hats. But it's all mine now, and this find is almost convincing me to start my own collection. I can see my husband's horrified face right now, actually. All the more reason to begin the quest of hat collecting. He he he he...

My Endevour in Sewing

Today I am wearing my dress that I hemmed myself. This was my first attempt at hemming and although I thought the stitching itself was probably a little too tight for the jersey fabric, at least it was a straight hem. I'm thinking about altering it more and turning it into a paper-bag waist skirt, so next time I can tuck a jersey turtleneck or long sleeve shirt into it. I found an awesome tutorial on the Emerging Thoughts website (found here)

Gonna Be a Busy Month..ugh!

Wow, I can not believe that it is already December!!! Christmas is just around the corner and I'm glad that I finished all the shopping, but there's still the wrapping and cookie making and funny enough, my finals. It's going to be crazy month. Of course I won't let all my busyness interrupt my clothing choices or the blog. I love having this outlet for creativity. At the end of every long work day I can't help but be excited to start blogging and of course reading all the blogs I subscribe too.

Today I was really in love with my outfit. I kind of threw it together in a mad rush to get out of the house to work. I've found that when I put together outfits that include three colors it helps making outfit choices much easier. It usually saves me 30 minutes in the morning.

Today I wore:
black tee, H&M ($7) vintage wool blazer, thrifted ($1) skirt, thrifted ($3) black suede pumps, TJMaxx ($40) gold necklace, from co-worker
