Time to Party!

What's Halloween when you're not watching Shawn of the Dead. I'm never one to watch actual scary movies, but I'll gladly watch comedy versions of them. I also will never pass up a good Hitchcock film. Especially Rear Window, which will be in my VCR later tonight. Anyways, today's post is composed of many photos.

This is what I wore to the pumpkin patch and to the thrift store.

10-31

This is my sister and I goofing around. She walked in on my little photo shoot so I asked her if she'd like to make appearence on the blog. I love her costume. She put a lot of thought into it, but she never found the time to make an ax to go with her lumberjack look.

Here's what I'm wearing for a party later on tonight. I figured I dress a little bit like a mid 19th century poet, such as Edgard Allen Poe. Nobody is going to be dressed up in costume at the party (since most of them are a bunch of party poopers) so if anybody asks, I'm still Edgard Allen Poe, just more girly looking.

And course my husband and I got in the spirit of things and handy out candy.

But some of the kids were scared of our Edward Norton (from Fight Club) pumpkin. My husband is a big fan of Chuck Palahniuk, so we figured that we'd give our pumpkin a really creepy look, because what's more creepy than Edward Norton from Fight Club, right?

Ok, so now on the clothes:

Halloween Party

I just returned from a fun block party in the dog friendly neighborhood. Of course I had to bring Starla in her adorable banana outfit. I couldn't walk 10 steps without someone commenting on her little outfit. I'm glad nobody else had the same outfit for their dog. That would've been mortifying for her!

starla and me

I dressed in more 60s vibe. I was lost on what to put together at the last minute this morning. I think it work, although most people couldn't tell exactly what I was.

10-30

I know the picture is way blurry but poor Starla wasn't concentrating on the photo, but instead of the scary monsters hanging out at the porta potty. She was pretty much thrashing in between photos. Too bad.

The costume consisted of:
orange dress, h&m, thrifted ($5) white belt, target ($7) black knee high boots, thrifted ($7)
Starla's outfit came from Target ($10)

A Modge Podge of Things

10-29a

Today's outfit was a "modge podge" of different things that were actually clean or not stored away for ironing. We've all been there. Sometimes life gets a little busy and slowly but surely the laundry gets put on the back burner for a while. My worst chore, just happens to be ironing and since most of my clothes are desperately wrinkled I was left with little to work with. But I liked what I came up with. A co-worker asked where I got my clothes and of course I said the thrift store. She proclaimed that those kinds of things she would just pass up in the store, but that I made it work. Well, that was a nice compliment!

10-29

Here's the look:

1st Attempt at Pattern Mixing

10-28

Wow! I am not liking that it's dark by the time I get home from work now. It makes taking pics very difficult. I usually take my pictures in the evening, since I am out the door for work by 7:30 am and it's already difficult enough for me to get moving any ways. Plus it's still dark at 7:30 am anyways, so it wouldn't make much difference. Oh well.

So today I wanted to dive into the world of pattern mixing. I've been seeing so many bloggers mixing patterns and decided to give it try. I paired a dark green lacy patterned skirt with a white leopard cardigan for a beginners attempt. I'm sure I'll get more comfortable with it on the weekends. I still have to be a little more subtle at work.

Impromptu Roadtrip

10-25c

What was suppose to be a quick trip to Target for my husband turned into a mini road trip to North Carolina. I was having a hankering for some of the best fried chicken in the world, so we took off towards the North Carolina border to Southland! The scenery was really great so it was easy to find places to take photos from inside the car. As for the lunch, it was too die for. Of course I had to add some okra and green beans on the side.

10-25b

Because the day was suppose to be spent running errands and such I dressed the part. The top is actually a re-purposed suit jacket I found at the thrift store 3 years ago. It's one of my faves and I'm so glad I found a marching band-esque jacket for a fraction of the price of other in stores right now.

Fun Times!

10-24

It took my husband and I all morning to try to figure out something to do for fun this afternoon. Living where we live allows for lots of bore-drum, unless we want to pay an arm and a leg for something entertaining. So, we decided to take our little one on a trip to a dog friendly neighborhood. We can't really take our dog for a walk in our neighborhood, since its just not safe enough, but we can take a 15 minute drive and enjoy a nice leisurely walk and then we discovered a brand new dog park! Next we went to a great pizzeria that allowed for us to eat with our pup. She even got her own water bowl and a yummy table scraps from our stromboli.

Yay! Wear Jeans to Work Day!

Today was so weird! Normally I would never be allowed to wear jeans to work. Not even for charity, but since my bank has new management they decided to allow us to wear jeans to work, so long as we pay $5 towards breast cancer research. That's a noble cause, so I thought why not?!

10-23b

I am also super excited tonight because my husband surprised me with adding Photoshop to my computer. So I no longer have to use shotty FotoFlexer to fix my photos. Another added bonus?! I will never have to worry about a big zit on my nose or a cow lick in my hair. It'll take me a while to get use to this superior of photo editing, so bear with me:)

Summer Already?

IMG_0538

Hmmm, it seems that it turned into summer again. I had no idea what to put on this morning since it was still pretty cold. I guess it isn't so bad. I decided to wear my black linen rose hemmed dress one more time...hopefully before spring. I layered it with an oxford for a little warmth since I knew the AC would be blasting again...as if it were 100 degrees outside...even though it was only 80.

Totally Rushed!

IMG_0524

I was rushing like a crazy person this morning in order to get to the body shop by my appointment at 7:30. In the crazed race against time I came up with this outfit sans pink accessories. As I gazed at myself in the mirror I felt a little like a bumble bee, so in my grand exit I rummaged sporadically in my closet for my pink heels and then discovered my belt at the bottom of the pile. Ta Da! I got a few compliments from the old ladies at the bank for my belt. It's a bit retro. In fact my old manager who's in her fifties still has the same belt, only in navy. I just don't have the 80s power suit to really pull the whole look together. Oh well, maybe for Halloween!

Ok. Better Day!

I had a great day today compared to yesterday. When I got to work my co-worker 'E' surprised me with a big bag of costume jewelry to rummage through. I picked out about 10 pieces to add to my collection. I would've picked out more, but I'm sure my husband would've given me the "stink eye" if I came home with another bag of jewelry. Another highlight of the day was sneaking peaks of my new Vogue magazine in between customers at my teller station. Sometimes I just can't help myself. Anyways, here's todays pics!

Of course, Starla had to sneak into the photo-op. She's such a cutie!

No Good Horrible Bad Day

IMG_0509

So, I wish I could say I had the greatest day ever, but unfortunately that was a big NO! Work was good, but seriously busy. I had a few funny moments throughout the day. A girl came into cash a check while still wearing her wedding dress. This wasn't the funny part though. She proclaimed that the dress was a size 6, but she needed a 14, so she cut the back in half last night and then laced the dress with ribbon. Then she did a twirl to show off the craftsmanship. She then felt compelled to show us her "real gold tooth" and her tongue ring. It was quite the scene. The horrible part of the day was I got in a car accident for the first time. Nobody was claimed to blame, but still. Not the best way to go home after work.

On the lighter side of life, I did have fun getting dressed this morning. I've been wanted to wear this belt for a while and finally got the nerve to wear it. The buckle is made of proceline and was hand painted in Mexico. This was a thrift find of course. I don't know where anyone would find something like this at the mall.

Here's to Accessories!

Today my friend, 'D' and I decided to hit up the local Gem Show that stops by our area twice a year. Last time we went I didn't come away with much, except a fun pair of vintage clip-ons but this time was a different story. I came back with these pretty rings and earrings.

IMG_0503

I also bought a hunk of coral that I'll probably turn into a necklace, and then I made a ring with a hunk of stone. I left it in my car though so I'll take a picture of it later. Oh yeah, also a fun owl pendant which is also in my car at the moment. Due to the Nor-easter I won't be heading out to the car to retrieve these items unless absolutely necessary. It is seriously ugly outside, which happens to be why I'm inside taking my pics.

A Day at the Fair

Wow! I can't believe what kind of day I've had already! Of course I had to go to work for the morning (which was cool since a customer brought my manager and I breakfast) but then after the very busy week day, I treked over to the art fair in the artsy neighborhood where I work. It was fabulous, but cold and damp. Not a good combination for an art show. I did come away with 2 prints from 2 different artists, plus a fancy wine opener from the local thrift store booth.

This was a collage/painting that was made into a print:

and this print reminded of my cute little dachschund, Starla

I am Loving the Tights!

I really can't get over how excited I am to try out all the tights that have been sitting in my closet. At the end of spring, I usually go around to all the shops and buy up all of the tights that are on clearance. These particular ones were only $1 at Forever 21. They were a little funky for work, but fortunately everyone seemed to dig them. They are little more subtle then the flat out sexy fishnets. Although, those may creep into my wardrobe soon enough at work. Maybe if I wear those with a subdued pencil skirt and lower heels I can pull it off. Until then!

Here's what I put on today...

sweater, thrifted ($3) skirt, target ($10) scarf, H&M ($10) and of course those same old shoes (they are super comfortable though!)

When in Doubt...

Just leave the house with the outfit you first put on!

I had a second thought about my outfit this morning, but since I was running seriously late, I basically ran out of the house with my stockings not even pulled up all the way:) After I got to work I received a few compliments so all was good. I liked the way the dark green in the top and the burgundy in the skirt went together and the outfit was perfect for our cool rainy day.

Here are some of the finds I found while thrifting this weekend!

What a Great Hump Day!

Not only did I just get back from a great vacation (we'll just forget about that the little detail about missing the last flight home in Atlanta) but when I got back to work I found out I got to have a half day!!! So as soon as I got home I ripped off my regular work duds and changed into something more fun. I've been dying to wear these knee high boots since I bought them last spring, and it was finally cool enough to wear them! I guess I brought back some cool weather from Chicago.

So here's what came out of the closet!

Green open front cardi, Dillards ($7) yellow top, thrifted ($3) skinny jeans, charlotte russe ($20) cognac boots, ebay ($20)
