Welcome Summer

day28g

Well it appears that summer is definitley here with a gross humid presence.  I don't mind summer but the humidity!!  It makes life hellish!  But just like every other year, I just grin and bear it.  And then I throw on the most fluid airy dress I own.  This polyester lovely was waiting for me at the thrift store for only $1!!!  Polyester isn't the most breathable thing, but when it's cut like a tent, it does the trick.  And the pattern is one of my favorites too!!

If you're in America, I hope you all had a lovely Memorial Day.  I use that day to remember my Grandpa and Great Uncle who both fought during WWII .  Both sacrificed so much for a better world and I'm so grateful for them.  Besides remembering the importance of the day I did some sewing, reading, and went to my parents for a BBQ.  All in all it was an amazing day and I was sad to see it go away.

And I'm already gearing up for my next weekend!!  I will be spending the day updating my blog again and getting some stuff cleaned up.  It'll be a huge feat, but I'm up for the challenge.  First thing first?  Get those darn navigation buttons under my header to work!

Beach Day!!

beach15

I guess I may one of those "lucky" people who have the beach right at their fingertips.  The funniest part of it is I hate the parking at beach, the crowds, and the annoying gift shop stands.  It's all hokey and commercial.  What I do love is the feeling of the breeze on my skin, the salty moist air, and the feeling of sand under my feet.  So what's a person to do?

Whenever Zach and I feel the need to head out and enjoy a leisurely day on the beach we always drive about 45 minutes south to visit a nature park to visit their beach.  There are rules of no sun bathing or swimming, but all I like to do is wade a little in the water and sit on the beach.  We even brought a little picnic lunch!!  We walked up the beach for about an hour and then made our little camp away from anything and anybody.  It was deserted and perfectly quiet.

Since there is the rule of no sun bathing, I donned an outfit of a light colored skirt and a lace top.  Not pictured were my sandals but who really wears shoes on the beach?  hehe..

Neat little creatures were all over the beach.  This baby crab is a Ghost Crab and they were seriously every where.  They dug holes in the sand and hid as soon as they felt our vibrations through the ground.  The stingray was washed ashore and sadly wasn't alive.

The Resurrected Garment

day27

So last time I put on this dress, I ended up ripping a huge hole in it.  It made me sad and a bit mad.  Anywho, that was about 1 month ago and I finally got to fixing the rip and decided to wear it at the first chance I had!  The eyelets are so pretty and the white light fabric makes it perfect for dressing up on a hot day. I have a pretty toasty walk to work so these kinds of outfits are going to be my saving grace.

Oh and while I was wearing this outfit I got the oddest "compliment" from a friendly acquaintance.  Apparently I looked like an alien because I'm so pale and with the white dress it just made me look like I was glowing.  That was an interesting observation and I'm not sure I can quite disagree with him.  I'll embrace my paleness since I'm too lazy to use sunless tanner and I just burn if I lay out.

day27d

I hope you all had a lovely weekend!!  Zach and I spent the whole afternoon at a wildlife refuge called Back Bay which is a beach treated like a sanctuary.  Not a single piece of trash was in sight and the whole beach was ourselves for most of the day.  I'll be dedicating a whole post to it since that was our anniversary gift to one another.

Beating the Blues

day26

Goodness, it feels like forever since I had anything to do with Blogger lately.  Sorry for the absence you guys!  I really appreciated all the nice supportive comments on my last post.  I've been withdrawn for a few days now and I'm finally coming around.  Depression is a hard thing to kick sometimes and I usually give myself space for a few days and then start to feel better.  So I'm getting there:)

Getting back in the swing of things is pretty much helping me out.  And today I finally put some thought into my outfit and felt so much about myself.  I felt like blue was my color today and I spiced it up with my funky vintage enamel belt.  And my trusty awesome loafers helped round out the look.

And now I will be enjoying some of the happier parts of my life!!  My husband and I are celebrating our 4 year anniversary today!!  Heading out to our favorite restaurant Azars and engorging ourselves on lots of hummus, olives, and baklava.  Mmm....Yummy!!

Not Going Your Way

day23b

So that job interview I had went well, as far as interviews go, but I didn't get the job.  The realization of this is starting to sink in a little bit every hour but during the morning after I was told the news I found myself tearing up (read flat out crying in the bathroom).  This was something I was really looking forward to, which is why I took it so hard.  So now I need to just suck it up and get on with it.  But tonight I'm just wallowing and commiserating myself with my own pizza and some indulgent fantasy shopping (since I really have no money).

day23e

day23d

Aside from all the saddness I've been feeling today I decided to rekindle some of my highlights from Sunday and posts pics from a walk Zach and I took during the morning.  It's nice just walking hand in hand and enjoying the scents of springs all the while sipping on organic iced coffee.  It's soothing and pleasant.

And I've been meaning to wear this dress for a while now!  I bought it at a thrift store way back in August for an beautiful couple's wedding back last September.  I was so busy that day that I never remembered to take photos of it!  I spent a complete afternoon altering this dress since it was the most 80-tastic dress I'd ever seen.  I think I modernized it a bit, but made sure to allow some 80s elements to show through.

Happening Weekend

day20c

Woah!! Picture heavy today!!  I dressed kinda casual for work on Friday but I still loved my outfit.  Zach and I were walking to breakfast on Friday morning before my work day and I asked Zach (ever so sweetly: if he'd take my blog pictures.  I'm glad we did since the lighting was beautiful for early morning and I really loved the siding on this old building in Ghent.  There is never a lack of good places to do pictures around our neighbor.  That is something I can appreciate!

I think I really liked the way I incorporated my accessories with my outfit.  The purse is something that Amanda gifted me last year and I loved it!  I finally remembered to include it in my blog posts too:)  And despite it's small frame, it holds a lot of stuff! Including my DSLR Nikon!  Bonus!  Then I threw on a bunch of rings and bracelets.

Alrighty, I'm gonna keep this short!  My busy busy weekend isn't over yet!  I'm about to run out the door to go thrifting/vintage hunting with my friend Diane.  I am really looking forward to our marathon shopping date!  If you follow me on twitter, you'd know that I've been crazy busy this past weekend.  Co-worker breakfast followed by volunteer work at the Food Bank, then cleaning frenzy, then chilling out with a really good friend at an Art Fest/dinner and now thrifiting! Phew, I'm gonna tired!

Weekends are Sweet!

day19b

Time to get the weekend on!!  This week has given me a taste of what the new job will be like, if I get it, and so far I'm liking the busy run run run type days!  It's been great learning more and doing more and feeling more pro-active at my job.  It makes for more rewarding days I guess.  But all work and no play is no way to live!  So this weekend I'm letting loose! haha!!

day19c

day19d

First thing Saturday morning I'm meeting so people from work for breakfast and then we're heading to the Food Bank to do some volunteer work and then later I'm meeting a friend for a fun afternoon full of art and Greek food!  So, yeah, I'm geared for the weekend.

day19e

And here's what I wore to work!  I found this pretty little ruffle dress at TJ Maxx and thought it was the cutest thing!  I'll definitley wear the heck out of it during the summer months.  It's a light fabric with a good quality lining plus it's grey so it should go with most everything in my closet! That why I paired it with navy blue and yellow heels!  Neutral are a great way to help incorporate more color into a look, especially if they're contrasting! Ok, so now on to the weekend!!
