Unhappy Weekend

Sorry to start this off like a Debbie Downer, but this weekend has just been the pits. Especially Sunday. I had big plans for something fun today on my blog, but it had to be moved to tomorrow because of the huge hockey game that somebody couldn't miss. Also, I had the desire to drive out to this fun forgotten duck pond/park that is usually deserted, in order to get some good outfit pics with a pretty background and after freezing my butt off for a good 10 minutes, Zach realized the memory card wasn't in the camera. So that was a waste.

IMG_1849

I was also in a bad mood because I was suppose to help with making signs for a protest protesting a protest in our area. Basically there's this "religious" group protesting in our Jewish neighborhood and also in our gay neighborhoods at the schools and synagouges, so my friends were meeting at our coffee house to make signs to protests these nutcases and I wanted to help. I tell you, that the world we live in should be so much more understanding now and so less judgmental. So to make a long story short, I couldn't go help my friends because my parents wanted me to stay for dinner, which would be fine, but I gave up meat about a month ago and they were serving pork chops (which they thought was amusing). So basically dinner was a bust for me. So if I look pissed in these pictures at all, it's because I was. I won't lie about it.

So now that I've gotten that off my chest, I should start to feel better soon. Who would think that Monday would be a better alternative to the weekend? I was so looking forward to this past weekend too.

My New Favorite Combo

Have you ever come across a color combo that you just go gaga over? I am already in love with the color mustard, but I've come to absolutely adore navy and mustard. So this outfit is incredibly matchy matchy, but I love it! The skirt is one of my fave finds from a trip to the thriftstore about 2 months ago and I kind of built the outfit around it. Oh and I'm so glad that open toed shoes with tights are no longer taboo, because I love wearing my summer shoes in the winter. But the opened toed shoes make me so excited for warmer weather and I know I am not the only one! I say we all get together and picket against this season of winter and demand more sunshine, longer days, and warm weather. For all the gals who are living it up in the southwest and Florida, I guess you can disregard the message but your support is appreciated:) Ok, I'm being silly, but I am just over it!!

The Moments I Cherish

Friday is here and I couldn't be more happier at the moment. I really want to make something of my weekend and just enjoy the little bit of time off I have. I wish I didn't over extend myself throughout the week and cause myself stress, but I guess that's what weekends are for anyways. Just for today I'm already working 9 hours, going to a baby shower at 7, then going to the Alice and Wonderland party at 9 until the wee hours of the morning. It's going to be a long day! I'm just happy that I'll have time to decompress on Saturday and Sunday and enjoy some time with Zach.

I hope everyone else weekends are good to the last drop!!! I'll have a surprise for my next post:)

Time to Relax on the Computer/TV Time

So I'm typing my Wednesday blog post on Tuesday since my new habit will be to do no computering/tv watching on Wednesday. I already have my evening lined up with doing arts and crafts with my neighbors and making costumes for the costume party they're having on Friday. It's an Alice in Wonderland theme and we're drinking Long Island iced teas instead of regular tea (aren't my neighbors cleaver) and we all have to dress in costume. I'm still brainstorming though. I need to re-watch Alice in Wonderland I guess!

Here is the fab dress my friend let me have before she swapped it at the clothing swap. It's the Laundry dress I was bragging about on Sunday! It's so cute and I'm so glad she thought of me before throwing it in the bag. I also paired it with this funky belt I picked up at Beacon's Closet while in NYC. This belt was giving me problems though! I couldn't figure it out until I Googled "wrap belts" and found the instructions. I'm really not that dumb, but this thing was hard!! Hahaha!

And since my knees are bothering me again, I went ahead and threw on the flat vintage boots I picked up from Ebay last year. They were so comfy all day and I was thankful for it!

This Should Be Fun!

As it is the time of Lent I've decided that not only will I be keeping up with my vegetarian lifestyle but Zach and I will also have a TV and computer free evening every Wednesday. It will definitely take some getting use to, but I figured it would be a great opportunity to enjoy togetherness while also partaking in some creativity. I've been kinda slack on my crafting endeavors and really need to buckle down. I am also really hoping that this new habit sticks with us after Easter! Our neighbors/friends don't even have a TV and it seems that they just have more fun like that. It's interesting to think about.

Here is what I wore on Monday and boy did I get some looks from the co-workers! I toned down the craziness of the tights with a dress that is business appropriate but cute. I totally took this look from Jessica of What I Wore. She loves her wrap dresses and colorful tights so when I found this baby I immediately thought of her and how she always pairs them so wonderfully with her tights.

Oh and I thought I'd share my evening with you which involved all of the following!! It was so nice to relax with my favorite TV show and bask in the glory that is ColdStone :)

Starla's Story

It's funny. I don't think I've mention the story behind my doggie, Starla. She has quite a fascinating story, at least in my opinion. Zach and I had been toying with the idea of having a dog ever since we got married but he never really wanted to commit to anything. One day Zach and I were in Ghent partaking in a fun SPCA festival and I discovered the Dachshund Rescue tent and immediately made a run for it! Zach loved Dachshunds so I figured he couldn't say no! So we visited and I was wrong. Zach could say no. I thought he was crazy! Starla had to be without doubt the cutest dog in the bunch. Her face just screamed "Adopt me already!!!!" but nobody did. Well, as soon as we got home, I get on the computer and start filling out the adoption form and taking a test that seriously took me an hour. It's a rigorous adoption process, let me tell you! Zach peers over my shoulder and goes, "what do you think you're doing?" I froze. I knew I should have told him first, but I really wanted this dog. Zach eventually agreed, but made sure to tell me that he wasn't sure about it. I said, "Oh these things takes weeks!" How wrong I was! The next day the foster mom came over with Starla to see how she'd be with us and then 4 days later she was ours!!!

IMG_2307

Now here's the kicker! Somehow this cute adorable puppy was found wandering the streets of South Carolina and she got picked up by Animal Control. There she sat for a month before anyone would adopt her. How could anyone resist that face! Hours before being euthanized she was snapped up by Dachshund Rescue of North America and they adopted her and put her in foster care. It really makes you think, doesn't it? What would my life be without Starla? I'm tearing up right now just thinking of it.

Well here we are again taking our daily walk and how I value these moments!

Embarrasing Moments with the Mini Skirt

Okay, so lets just be honest here. Mini skirts are a particularly sexy item of clothing. Usually when you wear them you might be some hoots and hollers from rude men driving in their cars, but usually you just brush it off. Well yesterday I was wearing my favorite pleated flowey mini skirt and walking with some friends from a clothing swap to our yummy lunch spot, Yorgos. I begin to hear a ridiculous loud laughter and realized I had been completely showing off my ass!!! Oh My God!!! It was so windy yesterday that the wind kept blowing my skirt up and revealing my bum to a car full of guys! I seriously could have died but I just kept on walking, only now holding my skirt down with my hands. I am still wondering why I didn't notice a breeze or anything, but oh well. So there's my embarrassing moment for the week! Hope you all got a laugh, because I sure did!

The clothing swap was lots of fun though! I was surprised how much I was able to come away with! Normally it's a crap shoot, but I found lots of tops and a couple of dresses. Including a dress by Laundry! Holy Moly!

Out with the Old In With the New

Yesterday I decided to wear my new ankle boots and boy are they comfy! Steve Madden did it again! I swear I can wear any of his shoes without a problem. They really are a statement piece though. They have huge flowers on the side of them, so they're hard not to notice. I went to the drugstore in this getup to pick up some orange juice and a lady stopped her car and scream out the window, "I love your boots!!" I was so flattered and then told her to head over to Dillards for their crazy sale.

So the photos of my outfit were taken by my sister, the budding photographer. Some are a little blurry but she's still learning about the functions of her camera.

Pho79 and a Good Friend

Brittany from Finder's Keepers is a new friend whom I met through the wonderful world of the fashion blogging. We met up about a month ago for some yummy coffee. Yesterday we decided to meet up for some yummy Pho noodles at Pho79 and then we went off for some fun thrifting at the Salvation Army. The noodles were way yummy, but I was having some difficulties eating the dish. Unless your a professional like Brittany, you're gonna make a mess. I was trying to do my best and be a lady, but at some point you just have to throw your worries away and just dig in!

The thrifting was so much fun! We found lots of stuff to try on, but I only ended up buying half of what I picked up. I got 3 fantastic dresses and a striped boat neck t-shirt, while Brittany found an amazing vintage coat that was destined to be hers. It was gorgeous! All in all it was fabulous time with a new friend and I'm sure there will be plenty more of these excursions to come!

Here's what I ended up wearing for the day! Half of it I spent just lounging with my dog since I got off work early.

So you may have noticed the shoes. I went a little crazy shopping for shoes after I broke my ankle boots. Sometimes I pay so little for shoes, it's never cost effective to have them fixed, so I just try to find others in my price range. Yesterday I meandered over to the mall to check out the shoe collection Forever21 had, and was not impressed with their selection or their quality. I saw glue all over one pair where the sole was attached. So I checked out Payless and they had 1 pair for $12! "Very good!", I thought to myself. As I'm exiting the store I turn to my left and see this huge clearance shoe event in Dillards. I was a bad girl and got myself another 2 pairs of shoes, with the intention of saving them for next winter. HA!!! Whatever! These oxfords lasted 3 hours in the box before I took them out for my dinner with Brittany. Then I bought a new pair of ankle boots. Those will make their debut tomorrow. Until then!

RIP Favorite Boots

rip boots

Well my time in NY would not have been complete without a nice long 2 mile walk in high heeled boots. Before you start thinking, "why did she wear high heeled boots in NYC?" please be assured that I thought Zach and I would be taking the subway instead of this walk. The subway station was under construction, so we had to walk, and boy was I a cranky B****! And on top of that, my boots officially bit the dust. The zippers weren't staying up the side of the boots, and I could definitely tell that my heels were giving up on me. With every step I was praying that some horrible catastrophe would not happen to me in the middle of Bryant Park. All in all it was a nice day outside and Zach and I did end up seeing some great things. We took a trip to B&H so he could get his fix for cameras and then we decided it would be fun to check out the Museum of Sex. That place was hilarious!!! And it wasn't for a lack of maturity on my part, it was just plain funny!

So here are the last photos of myself and my favorite ankle boots that have taken me far and wide in my travels.

The Night on the Town

Nothing about me screams party girl, but on Saturday night I decided it would definitely be worth my while to head out to the after party for the Chictopia10 summit and meet some new girls that I hadn't had a chance to introduce myself to. It was fun! I laughed at our crazy dancing, and apparently we got free drinks! hmmm... some concoction of mandarin oranges and vodka did my body good after a 6 hour long conference! Everyone was incredibly nice and we all had tons of things to talk about, although it was so loud I decided it was best to just start smiling and dancing.

So, of course this is Elizabeth and Andrea boogieing down! I have to say that they were pretty awesome dancers.

Christina
and I taking a photo after talking for a bit. Her and her husband are total cuties. And her outfit was amazing! I forgot to ask her where she found such an awesome skirt.

The four of us taking time out for more photos. I guess I should mention that Zach was made desegnated photo taker. He did a good job and I know he loved it! Photography is one of his first loves.
More pics of the girls getting down and enjoying the fun times. The girl I was taking a photo of is Mellisa from Crowded Closet that she collaborates with Kim (not pictured). They were really nice girls and had such a fun style going on.

Tieka and I doing our photo opt. Tieka was so much fun to meet in person. We definitely have a lot in common as far as blogging but also the music scene. We were definitely not in tune to the club scene music so we kinda just did the typical sway side to side to the beat thing. I maybe knew one song that was nastagic to my middle school dance, which was nice:)

Nickie and Christina in a candid shot I took. I love these kinds of photos!
