Keep on the Sunny Side

What works better for an Easter garment than a yellow dress mixed with some pastels?  Well, lots of stuff I guess, but for me a yellow dress is tops for spring holidays.  I got this dress from the Lulu's event in Austin last month and have probably worn it a million times since then.  It seemed only appropriate that I'd wear it for photos on Easter, or something.  I dressed it up with a pretty pink belt and then jazzed up my fingers nails a little bit with robin's egg blue nail polish.  You can tell I'm ready for spring when I'm donning pastels on my fingers.

My Easter was nice, but this year was the first year I didn't get a basket from my parents!!!  Does this mean I'm all grown up now?  Haha..I really miss my big fat chocolate bunny and my box of Peeps.  I guess to remedy that I'll be hitting up my local drug store to buy some clearance holiday candy.  Candy always tastes better when it's deeply discounted.  Ask anyone.

 

Well folks, have a very pleasant Monday!!!  Mine will be work work work, but in way I'm happy for it.  Mondays typically fly by fast.

Welcome Summer

Well it appears that summer is definitley here with a gross humid presence.  I don't mind summer but the humidity!!  It makes life hellish!  But just like every other year, I just grin and bear it.  And then I throw on the most fluid airy dress I own.  This polyester lovely was waiting for me at the thrift store for only $1!!!  Polyester isn't the most breathable thing, but when it's cut like a tent, it does the trick.  And the pattern is one of my favorites too!! 

If you're in America, I hope you all had a lovely Memorial Day.  I use that day to remember my Grandpa and Great Uncle who both fought during WWII .  Both sacrificed so much for a better world and I'm so grateful for them.  Besides remembering the importance of the day I did some sewing, reading, and went to my parents for a BBQ.  All in all it was an amazing day and I was sad to see it go away. 

And I'm already gearing up for my next weekend!!  I will be spending the day updating my blog again and getting some stuff cleaned up.  It'll be a huge feat, but I'm up for the challenge.  First thing first?  Get those darn navigation buttons under my header to work!

The Many Happenings

One of the things I love best about living where we live, is the fact that there is always something to do. For example, Friday night was spent at a The Big Lebowski movie festival that included white russians, costume contests, and a sold out independent movie theatre. It was coordinated by an local online news source and it was absolutely fabulous! I laughed my ass off at the costume contest. The winner was actually a kid dressed like Larry (the kid who lost his homework) and man was it funny! The guy who dressed like Jesus won second place, and he took his character super serious. He made the whole place roar as he wax his bowling ball. If you haven't seen the movie I highly recommend it, if you enjoy the rather obscure.

Saturday night was spent at a gallery opening. Our neighbors/friends knew the artist, Jason Levesque, so they invited us out. Since we were heading to a gallery opening, we decided it'd be best to dress up a little. And since I am still doing the 30 for 30 challenge, this posed...well a challenge. I didn't take into account that I'd be needing to dress up when I picked out my outfits, so I decided to stick with basic black. For some added interest I just threw a pretty scarf onto my head and some jewelry, and I was set to go:)

The place was packed, since Jason's work was featured on the front page of our Friday newspaper, so art buyers were steadily coming in to purchase prints and paintings. I loved the showing. There were actually two artist showing that night in a collaborated effort. The name of the exhibit was Pretty Girls, and both of the artists took the female form to new heights. Here's a link to the Jason's blog Stuntkid. The other artist, Erik Jones, had amazing art too, but unfortunately, his website does not seem to be working, but here's a link to some of his work. Another awesome tidbit about the show? Instead of the usual cheese and cracker spread, they reserved an icecream truck so everyone could choose a yummy cold treat. It was hot as blazes, it the icecream truck was extremely popular. Such a fun evening.

Off To Richmond!!!

I am writing this now with pictures from yesterday because I will be covered in mud all day today. I am helping an environmental buddy of mine and Zach's with replanting wildflowers on Belle Isle which is right around Richmond. I can't wait to get my hands all dirty, since I love planting and gardening. The only thing I'm not looking forward to is being soaked with mud, since it's been raining for 24 hours now.

But it won't be all work and no play. Since our friend Tracy knows my love of thrifting we will be checking out some thriftstores in the area, and of course check out Urban Outfitters. I can't believe I have to drive for over an hour just to get to my favorite store.

And yesterday's outfit was basically based on my need to be comfortable all day. Friday's are my long days and I enjoy to be able to feel relaxed on my casual days. I was also keeping warm because even though the weather is becoming more spring like, the crazy people at work are pumping up AC like it's 100 degrees outside. It's so stupid, but whatever. I also have a personal heater under my teller counter to keep my warm:) hehehe. I use it all year round.

Oh and my favorite tights with pokka dots got a hole in them:( That really bummed me out since I had to find them in NYC since they aren't anywhere around here. Oh well. It was a good run.
