Worthwhile Summers

day29d

This summer is just flying by like crazy!!!  I love it!!  But I wish I could make it slow down just a bit more.  Every weekend it seems like I'm trying to shove as much summer time fun into my day as possible, but its so hard!! Real life will catch with me over the weekend and I'll end up just sitting around twiddling my thumbs.  This weekend is a little more exciting than all that, but not much.  As soon as the weather cools down a little more I still plan on walking up a light house, going back to the beach and seeing a baseball game.

The best part about summer though is wearing all these light colored clothes I've been saving up.  This skirt was in my mend pile for three whole months and just last week I decided to get cracking on my mend pile of summer clothes.  Now it's my favorite skirt!  It's super light weight and the fabric is perfect.  And since its a pretty cream color, it goes with everything in my wardrobe.  I still have a bunch more stuff to get mended though, so I know what I'll be doing over my weekend.  More sewing!!  It's a good thing I enjoy doing it.

Steller Days and Swiss Dot Dresses

IMG_2898

Once again, I am loving today! It's always nice to enjoy a slow day every now and then and just relax at my teller station reading a magazine article about Jessica Simpson. How stress free is that? And of course I was totally looking forward to my fun taco night. That white melty cheese is soooo..... good and I can't help but eat a whole cup to myself...and then lie to myself later when I write the info in my food journal. It's only once a week though;)

So here is the pretty swiss dot dress I picked up thrifting a few weeks ago. I am in love with it so much. I wore it last week but I ended up not getting pictures since by the time I got home it was dark and my makeup was looking a little less than fresh.

I decided to sport the yellow belt again just to add a little something to the look. It was rather boring without it. And then my spiky coral necklace was put on for that something extra. Note: I bought the necklace thinking it was wood since I'm not too keen on wearing dead animals, but I figured waste not want not and it was pretty pricey in my opinion.

Anyways, I hope you all are having a great Tuesday and I wanted to say thanks to all that leave comments for me. They brighten my day and I hope my comments do the same for you all!

The Weekend Recap

Uh-Oh! It's wasn't even 8am and I already received a text from my friend 'D'. She is the shopping aficionado I always talk about and my partner in crime when it comes to shopping. So she ended up coming to my place and then off to the thriftstore we went! Much to my hubby's delight (hehehe). I got a great 1960s coffee and tea set, a vintage Samsonite train case, and this dress, plus a couple of sweaters. All in all a good haul of things I've actually been on the lookout for! I am going to have to get a photoshoot with my new finds at some point this week.

And my outfit was another one of those, "i'm just gonna take it easy this morning and throw something fun on". I bought this Converse dress a few months ago, and it's been too chilly to throw it on since it's linen, so today seemed like the perfect time to wear it. But it was still a little too chilly so instead of tights (which may have just look weird) I threw on my jeggings, rolled them up, then added my chucks. Not rocket science, but comfy, casual, and a bit different.

And this is kind of off topic, but if you're a vegetarian and love tortilla soup, like I do, here's a great recipe! I made this for a get together with friends. My friend 'L' has been laid up with a dislocated knee for two weeks, so Zach and I came by and cooked dinner and then watched a very good movie/musical called Once, which stared the duo from The Swell Season. I absolutely love their music and had never heard of it!

To Thrift or Not to Thrift

Have you ever decided that you need to go shopping for a whole new wardrobe ? I have been in dire need of a new wardrobe for some time now. I love thrifting but sometimes I find myself picking up impulse buys because I can't find what I absolutely need. So then I run out of money and I still need to get a few staple items. It's pretty annoying and I need to figure out a happy medium. I've always gravitated towards thrift stores for environmental and charitable reasons, but sometimes you just can't find that perfect item. I was reading a post from Annie from Time Enough for Drums and she mentioned her desire to shop exclusively from thrift stores for an entire year and how she actually broke and bought a dress from Target. It's cool to give ourselves some slack. It's a hard thing to do to totally resist temptation, but I figure that's what Lent is for. It's only 40 days, right?

Anyways, I am now on my way to buy a few outfits brand new from the mall, which I haven't done in ages. I get this guilty feeling when I do it, but I am tired of picking up the "wrong for me" items. I can't wait to wear these items in NY too!

Oh and here is what I wore for today. This LBD (which I'm wearing underneath this blouse) has been on a long journey in my wardrobe and it is time to retire this one to a clothing swap.
