Remix Number Nine! Oreo Style!

belt2

We're on to number 9 now for the remix! This is more fun than I thought it would be. Today's look was basically, well basic! Black and white. Can't get more basic than that I guess. It wasn't a cop out or anything. It just so happened my black blouse fit really well over the white dress. And sometimes a little black and white outfit can be refreshing! Although, I couldn't really not mix a little color in the outfit, so I threw on the belt.

Although I'm having fun with this 30 for 30 Remix Challenge, I am finding that I'm missing my little shopping excursions. It was a stress reliever for me and I'm sure most of you can relate to that. I even forgot about the shopping ban for a hot minute and started filling up my shopping cart with all sorts of Urban Outfitters goodies, during their online sale, only to realize what I was doing after 10 minutes! How depressing! Their best sale of the summer and I can't even partake...hehehe

Well, it's only Wednesday, so I hope everyone is already gearing up for a good weekend! I actually don't have to work this Saturday, so I'll be heading up to Ikea with a friend on Saturday!! I'll be looking for little odds and ends, while she'll be looking for tons of stuff, since she is moving into her new condo. I will definitely need to show some composure. Most of the time when I make Ikea trips I get a little crazy and buy tons of crap I don't have room in my house for..haha..much to Zach's delight. I already promised him I wouldn't do that though...cross my heart.

In The Garden

garden

If there is one thing my Dad takes the most pride in (besides my sister and I) it's the yard. He gardens, plants trees, builds decks, patios, stairs...you name it! It's his one true happiness...I swear! This tree he planted about 10 years ago, is perhaps one of my most favorite part of the yard. I'm not sure what kind it is, but it has the most amazing drapey branches and the trunk is this peeling mess, that's beautiful at the same time. If there weren't ant hills all around it, I'd probably sit under the tree and read a book...Alice in Wonderland style;)

My outfit is another remix for outfit eight. Can you believe eight already?! I took the same dress I wore on Saturday and remixed it into a skirt with a blouse , which I tucked up into my wide belt. It really looked like one seamless piece of clothing after I tweaked with it for a while. Then I added my trusty coral necklace for some flair! Really this remixing thing is super fun! I really want to push the envelope and come up with even more fun outfits. I have some ideas up in my sleeve, and I can't wait to see if they work.

Oh and since I was borrowing my sister's camera I went ahead and took some pictures of the flowers in my parent's garden. I love the one with the cute little beetle crawling on the rose. It had the prettiest iridescent sheen to it.

The Many Happenings

art4

One of the things I love best about living where we live, is the fact that there is always something to do. For example, Friday night was spent at a The Big Lebowski movie festival that included white russians, costume contests, and a sold out independent movie theatre. It was coordinated by an local online news source and it was absolutely fabulous! I laughed my ass off at the costume contest. The winner was actually a kid dressed like Larry (the kid who lost his homework) and man was it funny! The guy who dressed like Jesus won second place, and he took his character super serious. He made the whole place roar as he wax his bowling ball. If you haven't seen the movie I highly recommend it, if you enjoy the rather obscure.

Saturday night was spent at a gallery opening. Our neighbors/friends knew the artist, Jason Levesque, so they invited us out. Since we were heading to a gallery opening, we decided it'd be best to dress up a little. And since I am still doing the 30 for 30 challenge, this posed...well a challenge. I didn't take into account that I'd be needing to dress up when I picked out my outfits, so I decided to stick with basic black. For some added interest I just threw a pretty scarf onto my head and some jewelry, and I was set to go:)

art

The place was packed, since Jason's work was featured on the front page of our Friday newspaper, so art buyers were steadily coming in to purchase prints and paintings. I loved the showing. There were actually two artist showing that night in a collaborated effort. The name of the exhibit was Pretty Girls, and both of the artists took the female form to new heights. Here's a link to the Jason's blog Stuntkid. The other artist, Erik Jones, had amazing art too, but unfortunately, his website does not seem to be working, but here's a link to some of his work. Another awesome tidbit about the show? Instead of the usual cheese and cracker spread, they reserved an icecream truck so everyone could choose a yummy cold treat. It was hot as blazes, it the icecream truck was extremely popular. Such a fun evening.

It's a Wonderful Day in the Neighborhood

marina2

Not our neighborhood though...hehehe... We ended up heading out to the other side of town to the Freemason District of Norfolk and enjoyed a nice walk down the cobblestone street (original since 1700s) and walked down to the marina for some nice scenic views of the Elizabeth River. It was getting extra gloomy outside so we hurried with our picture taking and just as we were ready to head back to the car, it started pouring! I was soaking wet and lucky me I was wearing white pants! Or unlucky me..which ever. Let's just thank god I was wearing underwear;)

I was a little sad our walk had to be over so soon, but we did make it to Machismos in time for some yummy burritos! I swear, their burritos are the biggest I've ever seen. No joke, it was as big as my head. If I wasn't so ravenous and didn't eat that damn thing in 4 minutes, I would've taken a picture just to prove what the biggest burrito in the world looked like..haha! I felt like a total pig when Zach got stuffed from just 1/2 the burrito and I had already eaten all mine, but that's cool.

The rest of the afternoon was spent in a food coma. Basically I was immobile and just ended up falling asleep to the sound of vuvuzela horns coming from the futball game. Just so everyone knows, I refuse to say soccer, just based on principal...why are American's so smug about being so different? Also, I embrace my English heritage by spelling the word Gray...as Grey. And if I could get away with it...I'd switch all the mileage signs to metric measurements. Alright, this is nonsense...but that's just me being me!

My Style Inspiration...

day5a

Have you guys ever seen The Office? I practically watch it every night and I guess somehow Angela's wardrobe must've inspired me to pick up this blouse at the thriftstore. It's high neck, buttons up the back, and lace scream Pioneer girl, (which is how The Office typically describes Angela's style) and I couldn't help but laugh at myself when I thought this. Especially when I remembered a quote from Angela mentioning that she usually gets her clothing ideas from her American Girl dolls.

Day 5

day5b

Anyways, I sometimes wonder what makes us choose a certain piece of clothing. Does inspiration just come to us subliminally? I definitley didn't intend to dress as super conservative Angela, but somehow I realized the resemblance shortly after watching an episode where she was wearing a very similar blouse. It's weird. I sometimes do that after I see other bloggers. In fact, I didn't start tucking my blouse into my skirts, until I starting clicking through Jessica Schroeder's pictures on Lucky Style Spotter. One day I just did it, and found out how much better my waist looked!

And side note---My pictures are especially horrendous these last couple of days, because my stupid battery charger hasn't been charging my camera battery very well. Zach and I walked about 1/2 a mile to take these pics only to realize the camera was still dead. So these were taken with his 3 megapixel phone camera. Just thought you all would like to know:)

So, I guess I Can Get Used to This

0708001949 copy

Boy was I excited when this outfit came together within seconds! Having so little in my closet right now is helping out immensely. I guess I get sensory overload when I have too much in my line of vision. All I did was pluck out three items and they just went together. It was that simple! I decided to carry on the laziness vibe deciding that I wasn't washing my hair or shaving my legs either:) hahaha...don't judge, you all do it too!

In fact, the last time I washed my hair was Saturday, to be perfectly honest. It's just too hot in my apartment to fathom the idea of blow drying and styling it every day or every other day for that matter. Plus my hairstylist is wondering what I'm doing to keep my hair so healthy! So I guess I don't need that $20 bottle of shampoo, that she's always trying to sell me! I beat the system, it seems:)

Ok, so on to my outfit! I guess I went a little patriotic with my color scheme but it was all good. One of our regular customers came in and I asked him how his Fourth of July weekend had gone. He said, "It was good. But not as good as yours...you're still celebrating!...hahaha" meanwhile pointing at my outfit. It was funny, but I assured him it was a complete accident. I love these colors together, no matter what time of the year it is!

Taking a Break from Reality

doublelayer6

Ok, so today was spent quite lazily working for 3 hours and then chilling out at home with my pup watching a fabulously horrible film, Paris When it Sizzles. When the billing includes Audrey Hepburn, I'm more than excited to give it a try, but this one was quite ridiculous...but it was meant to be. It was hokey, crazy, and a tad over zealous. Every film cliche is produced in the film (which is the ironic part of the movie) it just seemed in-genuine. Like Hepburn didn't really want to play the role at all. But it ate up a good 1 1/2 hours of my day of nothing and allowed my brain a break.

doublelayer5

doublelayer4

doublelayer3

The hardest part of my day was wearing this outfit. I am wearing a dress underneath a skirt and the double layers on a 101 degree day was extremely unpleasant, but I do it for the challenge! I knew layering would be crucial in making these 30 different items into 30 different outfits, but I totally forgot all about the icky heat and humidity that would spoil the fun. I saw Jasmine from Transient Withdrawal wearing tights yesterday and I was so jealous!! A little rain and cool air would be fabulous right about now. But never fear...our cold front will move in and it will be approximately 88 degrees on Friday. You heard right! 88 degrees will be our cold front. What kind of non-sense is that?

doublelayer2

And holy moley! As I am typing away I noticed it is already 4:45pm! My half day is over and now it is back to reality. Zach will be home from work soon and then we will take Starla for a walk, I will make dinner and Zach will help with the dishes (which I should've done while on my halfday..hehehe). He will be pleasantly surprised that I left some for him to wash:) He will also be pleasantly surprised that the Mr. Goodbar I bought him today is already half eaten by yours truly. I'm such a good wife! Sharing is caring, is what I always say! Well, have a lovely evening! I'll be back for day four of this challenge and look forward to piecing together something much more cooler and breezier!
