Hello Daily Fashionista Readers!
I'm the first of the many guest bloggers that Emily has set up for you while she's away on vacation. I'm Jasmine and I run my own style blog over at Transient Withdrawal, but it's fun filling in for Emily for the day. I miss her already, but I do wish her the bestest and most relaxing vacation. When Emily asked us to guest blog for her, she had the fun idea of doing a post inspired by our favorite music. Music is such a huge part of our lives that it's likely to influence how we dress whether we know it or not.

When it comes to music, I'm not all that loyal to a certain genre. As long as it sounds good to my ears, then I don't care if it's country, hip hop, indie, or whatever. I do tend to favor mellow, happy, acoustic songs like those from Colbie Caillat. Her songs are the most played on my iTunes so I figured I'd do a post inspired by her smooth, happy music that got me through some pretty dark days. When I think of sweet Colbie, I automatically imagine her singing at the beach; in a white, eyelet maxi dress with wavy hair and a flower in it. Now since I neither own said white, eyelet maxi dress, nor Colbie's gorgeous locks, I had to make due with what I have. Luckily, the beach is really accessible to me (I'm based in Southern California). I knew I had to wear something white so when I chose this top, the rest of the look just sort of fell in place. Don't you just love when that happens? This isn't too far off from what I normally wear, but thanks Emily for making me realize this good combination sooner rather than later. If I ever get asked to do something like this again, I'll do something more daring and try a look inspired by other favorite artists of mine: Maroon 5, Adele, Sara Bareilles, Backstreet Boys--just to name a few. The last one would probably prove to be most interesting, maybe for Halloween.

Stay tuned for the other bloggers who are to follow. Emily has a good line up for you all! Be sure to also stop by my blog and say hello!

Love,
Jasmine

Summer Vacation

forever21

So long!!   Farewell!!  Auf Wiedersehen, adieu!!  I bet I got that Sound of Music song stuck in your head now:) hehehe...  I'm saying farewell, but not goodbye because I'm taking a bit of a blogging break starting tomorrow until June 18.  A whole week!!  But do not fret!  I have lined up some awesome blogger friends to help me out during my mini hiatus/vacation...who I might add, I am soooo thankful for!  So be ready for some fantastic guest posts and even a giveaway to break up my hiatus!!!  I can't really stay away from the internet that long.

For my final look before vacation I took it in a very summery direction.  It was 110 degrees outside with the heat index and I basically wanted to get away with wearing as little clothing as possible.  I thrifted this amazing peach colored summer dress a couple of weeks ago and it finally made its debut!  The embroidery is fantastic and I actually found the color really complimenting to my skin tone.  Plus it makes me hungry for fresh peach pie.  hehehe..

The only accessories I could muster on this hot day was a necklace and a pair of sunnies.  I was a little bummed over the heat too because it practically melted all my pretty curls I achieved from sleeping with my hair wrapped in rags.  Oh well, I'm sure I'll do the rag curls again!  I loved the look of them:)

On an Impulse

forever21 hat

Well it seems like this hat on my head is gonna be stuck there a while.  I love love hats!!  Usually when the summer heat kicks in I never even think to put something extra on my head, but this super light straw hat is basically like wearing nothing at all!  And it looks cute.  It was a total impulse buy too.  I was wandering around Forever21 about a month ago and right when I was gonna walk out the store with nothing I glanced over and saw this hat with a big $6 tag on it. I snapped it up and brought it to the cash register as if it was the last straw fedora on the planet.  Hahaha!!  Anyways, that's the story of my hat.  I hope you were enthused ;)

The rest of the outfit really had more to do with my hair.  I have been crazed about hair tutorials on youtube and I stumbled across this tutorial for a fish tail braid.  I've never knew how to do this so I was stoked to see how easy it was!  And basically my hair braid was going to be the focal point of my look.  Oh and also these uber cute sandals I got from Lulu's a couple of month ago.  If you're in the market for comfy stylish sandals, check out them out!!

Rushing in Style

straw fedora

When I want to start my day real early with a trip out to breakfast I tend to find more easy going outfits that take little to no effort.  But I try to incorporate some sense of style and intention in my looks.  On this day I pretty much just wanted to wear a super bright dress and then tone it down with black.  Throw on a hat and necklace for good measure and I'm good to go!

So there you have it!!  Grab a bright colored dress, add in some neutrals and then layer on the accessories and you have an outfit good enough to eat breakfast in.  Or lunch...or whatever it is you dress up to eat for!!

To Every Season There is a Reason

pleated bodice

Notice a few changes around the blog?  I hope you all appreciate all the hard work I did!!  hehe..  I've momentarily lost any motivation to get everything just perfect for now, but don't fret!  I plan on getting it all done and finished in the next day or so.  I may have also lost some sanity too.  But I felt like it was time for a change, what with the air of summer all around me.

Chrysler Museum

Besides tooling around with my blogger htmls, I also got out of the house for a little while.  I'm saving up my funds for a trip to NYC in September so Zach and I are trying find things to do in our town that our free.  So we up and went to our local art museum to enjoy killing an hour there for our weekend fun time.  We could've paid $5 to see the Curious George exhibit (which would've been cool) but we're super strict when we give ourselves goals, so we did not.

Seeing as we were going to a fancy shamcy art muesum (it really isn't) I decided to throw on a pretty vintage summer dress and wedges for our trip.  This dress was seriously waiting for me to buy it from my local Goodwill.  I couldn't believe my luck to see that it fit perfectly.  Right down to the bodice.  Judging from the tag I believe it's from the 1960s.  These are the type of garments I love coming across.  You can definitely see the quality of work all the way from the front pleating to the sewing.

Ramble Ramble

day3c

I think white is going to be the color of the season for me.  White is considered a color, right?  Some might argue it's not, but eh, whatever.  It keeps me cool and comfy on hot hot days.  Why is it so hot in Virginia already?  I really have no clue.  Maybe global warming has something to do with it.  Now that I've completed babbled a whole paragraph I guess I can say Happy Weekend!!

I love having four day work weeks!  Makes the days seem so much shorter at work and then before you know it, it's time to party for the weekend.  Although there won't be much partying this weekend.  I was packed full of festivities a week ago so I plan on just kicking back and relaxing, plus getting some more clothes mended.  My summer wardrobe needs a boost.

Now and Then

60s inspired

Do you all remember that movie Now and Then?  That had to be my most favorite all time girl movie besides The Babysitters Club movie:)  The first time I watched it was when I was in Girl Scouts and we were having a lock in and stayed up all night watching movies.  Everyone was surprised to find out I didn't see it when it comes out to the theatre so they popped it into the VCR first.  Watching it with all my girl friends, munching on pop corn and drinking coke is probably one of my favorite memories from childhood.

So what the heck does this have to do with my clothes?  Well, this outfit is an homage to Now and Then.  I loved the cute summer time outfits those girls wore and thought it'd be fun to recreate it in a more grown up way.  Meaning I stuffed my bra with tissues;)  hehe.. Just kidding!!  Instead of stuffing my bra I put on some cute vintage oxfords, my vintage button down, a leaf print scarf and my pair of cat eye sunnies.

Now all that's left is a seance in a grave yard to round out my summer time look:)
