The Terrific Snow Day

Nothing beats a good winter snow day! Snow ball fights, winter walks, and heading down to the cafe for a good cup of coffee. I stay extra warm with mutiple layers of sweaters and t-shirts, not to mention 2 pairs of pants. We just aren't used to this kind of cold. Just on Thursday it was a warm 65 degrees, now to this! It's just crazy. I kept it real in some waterproof jeans of mine, which worked doubly good since they kept me warm and dry during the snow ball fight.

This particular snow ball fight got attention from our local news channel since it was a community event done through facebook. I believe we had about 20 participants. My team pretty much got massacred during the whole debacle.

Here are some pics from our snow ball fight.
And here's the outfit post from today. I shed a few layers for the picture and switch out of the soaking wet boots.

Anticipating the Winter Wonderland

Well it looks like my plans for a fun-tabulous day of shopping on Saturday have been caput. Virginia is definitely not used to snow. We start closing things down and get all willy nilly about an impeding dooms day. It's so funny! We become completely incapacitated and don't know what to do with ourselves. Since all the shops are closed it looks like my friends are going to want to do a clothing swap for fun. We were suppose to go to a bigger event today at a yoga studio, but again, it was canceled due to inclement weather. It's only going to snow 6 inches people! Anyways, because I already anticipated this I treked on over to this fabulous thrift store called The Granby Thrift and made a big dent in their inventory. On top of everything else, it was all 50% off!

Here's just some of the stuff I came away with. I got some clothes too, but I'm saving those for our trip to NYC.And here was yesterday's look for a super fun friday at work. I swear, some days at work I'm completely bored, and other days the girls I work with make me laugh uncontrollably all day. There's a lot to say about working with others who you get along with.

A Big Thanks to Tieka!

I hope everyone loves the new look. It's so much more personal now. Tieka, from Selective Potential, really helped me out with this. I've never really made a template before and couldn't get very good instructions on how to create one through Google. I've always admired Tieka's blog and her layout and she did a great job creating a whole new look for my blog. So thanks girl! You're the best:)

I totally ran out of time in the afternoon to take my pics again, so Zach and I did a little photo excursion while we took Starla out for her evening stroll. I was praying that people didn't come out of their homes to figure out where that big flash of light was coming from and thankfully nobody didn't. I'm still very camera shy when I'm out in public taking my pics, and I really need to just get over it, but I'm just so self conscious.

So what am I wearing?

Totally Bummed

Have you ever woke up thinking it was Friday only to realize it's Wednesday? How about spending half your day thinking this? I was so excited thinking it was pay day, thinking it was the last day of the work week, and getting excited for our neighbors to come over for dinner. Alas it was only Wednesday. Talk about a bummer! The one thing I enjoy about Wednesdays are the dinners my church hosts every Wednesday and the food is spectacular! I also like Wednesdays because it's hump day and we're that much closer to Friday (although I would've preferred if it was actually Friday). Anyways, I hope everyone had a fabulous day, no matter what day you thought it was.

Today I decided to wear my vintage skirt I picked up at a vintage store in Charlottesville, Va. I love the print and the fact that it's silk makes it feel more luxurious.

Feeling Industrious

I am enjoying this Style School class so much! It is really helping me to define my personal style a little more and it keeps my hands busy. I am one of those Type 'A' people who need to be on point and busy all the time. It is also the reason why I try to work full time, go to school full time, and basically just put too much on my plate. To make a long story short, I am a perfectionist and after taking this class, I am realizing I don't need to be perfect. I am not the best sewer or the best drawer, but I'm trying. I would still like my end results to be a little cleaner and neater, but I don't want to drive myself crazy over it.

Coincidentally, I feel the same about the way I dress. I wasn't absolutely in love with my outfit, but it did have some of my favorite elements. I added a bit of vintage, and overall I felt pretty, but I knew I was missing something. A belt maybe? Or maybe some other style elements such as knee high socks instead of tights.

So Long Fair Weekend

The weekend just wasn't long enough, now that I look back on it. I'm glad I stayed busy and got stuff around the apartment done, but geeze those days go by fast! It didn't help that I worked on Saturday either, but hey, what can you do? So welcome to Monday! It started off horribly, and it wouldn't stop raining then all of a sudden it cleared up and it felt like a new spring day! It was an amazing feeling when I got to take Starla for a nice afternoon walk while on my lunch break. I didn't need a coat, and the warm sun was the most welcoming feeling in a long time. I swear the weather here is unbelievable. By Saturday the high will be back to 37, and thus is life.

Since this morning was quite the morning, I was a little rushed getting dressed. I enjoy this skirt so much so I paired it with a ruffled button down and my oxfords and called it a day. I think it worked out well and I liked the simplicity of it.

Prom Party

What could be better than re-doing Prom all over again? Zach and I had the opportunity to have a fun night with friends at a near by apartment. It was so cute. The guys got to go hang out and drink Scotch (not very prom-like but hey we're in our mid twenties) and the girls went to a friend's house to get ready and do each others make up. We arrived at about 10:00 to boogie down and it couldn't have been a better night. Well, it could have, if I didn't have to be at work on Saturday morning. It was 2 am when all of a sudden I realized how late it was and we had to leave. We met some wonderful people and I have to say, it was 10 times better than our original prom.

Sorry I didn't get a good enough picture of the dress, but it was a sequined halter dress with chiffon on the bottom. Zach was wearing a velvet leisure suit he found at the thrift store for $6.

Giving Feels Wonderful

When my neighbors suggested that Zach and I should come out for the Love 4 H8TI event we couldn't say no. I've been wanting to do something for Haiti, but just sending a check to the Red Cross just didn't feel special enough. My church was having a special offering so I gave to that, but then I found out that some wonderful people in our local community were putting together a large party to raise money. People were having a fun time as they celebrated the spirit of giving and of humanity. Although, we were having so much fun, we still didn't forget the reason we were there. Everywhere you turned they were offering raffle tickets with all the proceeds going towards Haiti. For $5 a ticket you couldn't say no and it was amazing how many businesses donated to the raffle cause. It was heart warming really. Zach and I enjoyed ourselves immensely and I even got Zach on the dance floor towards the end of the night. Although I am not much of a dancer, I had a bit of liquid courage in me so I boogied down like a buffoon, but hey, it was for Haiti.

Here's what I ended up wearing. Since my tights were the brightest ones there, the local online newspaper photographers, kept asking to take my pictures because they liked the tights. It was kind of funny since I normally try to blend in but lately I've been finding the courage to dress up a little more different (like neon pink tights or wearing short and fishnets).

And here's what I made this morning! It's an owl cosmetic case!

Our Date Nights

It's funny. Date nights are so few and far between for us. We'll take day trips places and weekends away, but we never really get to do a dinner and a movie. So we did get to see A Single Man, directed by the Tom Ford, and I really couldn't say more wonderful things about it. It was a very good and heart wrenching story and visually interesting. If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it. It's probably the most beautiful movie I've ever seen. The movie takes place in the 1960s (my favorite decade) and I couldn't get over the set designs and all the vibrant colors.

After a wonderful movie, we headed over to Colley Cantina for dinner and drinks. I wish I had taken a picture of the massive chimichanga I ordered. It was seriously as big as my head, so I was only able to eat about 1/4 of it. To top off the night I had a very sweet and very yummy Fuzzy Parrot. Right now their thing is to top off tropical drinks with blood orange juice, so it was good.

So, now that I've talked about our date night, I go ahead and talk about my outfit for today. I found this Alice Temperley for Target dress a few months ago for a mere 5 bucks, but I ended up just forgetting about it. I think I've worn it once. Well, I broke it out of the closet again and decided to pair it with my fuchsia cardigan for a pop of color. And as you can tell, I am loving this camera ring! I decided to wear it to work today. It's so heavy it makes it a little difficult to count the money quickly so it may need to be reserved for a weekend look. Too bad.

Da Na Na Na Na Na...You Say It's Your Birthday!

It's 1:30 pm and I'm home from work and ready to enjoy a fun-tabulous day. Today at work I was surprised with a bunch of balloons, and a yummy birthday cake. They also surprised me with a card full of $35 one dollar bills. Those girls are funny!

Later tonight Zach and I will be heading to a little indie theater to see The Single Man with Colin Firth (my favorite British actor) and then to a fun little Cantina restaurant. All within walking distance to our new home. I love this place! I am hoping my neighbors won't be busy and see if they want to get out too.

So here's what I'm wearing today

Oh and this is the first project I've ever sewn! I'm so proud of it.

Another Sunday Fun Day!!

Sundays are probably the best day of the week for me, despite the fact that it's usually laundry day too. I got to celebrate my birthday early with my parents. My birthday is really the 19th of January, but since I work that day, I decided it'd be better just to celebrate on Sunday. We ate lunch at this awesome bakery called, Baker's Crust, then headed back to the house to open gifts. My parents actually surprised me with a dress from Modcloth, a purse from Fred Flare, and of course the quintessential Snuggie. Later that night my mom made me an awesome batch of Macaroni and Cheese with Gouda and Cheddar and broccoli. My favorite meal ever! And a family friend stopped by to help celebrate and watch some Mad Men.

Since I ran out of daylight to take my picture, I will go ahead and post pics of today's outfit instead. Today will be spent running errands and enjoying some craftiness for my new Style School class. Tonight I'll post a pic of my first time sewing project.

Sunday also started off wonderfully! I got to meet a fashion blogger in my area, name Brittany from Finder's Keepers.

I swear, when I met her it was like we had known each other for years and time just flew by as we talked and sipped our coffee. It was wonderful, and she is one of the sweetest girls I've ever met. Plus we had so much in common, which was great! We talked about fashion, thrifting, the men in our lives, religion, really the list was endless, and it was refreshing to meet someone new! Her blog is fabulous too! Right now she's doing a series of outfits that are inspired by art which is such a great idea!

A Walk in the Park

I didn't get to take many pics at the dog park since there were lots of dogs running all over the place and jumping on me. I also didn't want to break the camera. But here are a few pics from our walk to the park. Since we were heading to a kinda messy place I decided to dress casual in nature. Oh and if you are wondering why I am not wearing any kind of a coat, it's because yesterday was in the 60s for some strange reason. Just two days ago it was frigid and frozen, so it was a crazy day.

NYC! Here We Come!

So Zach and I decided about the trip and he actually agreed to go! We'll be staying there Friday-Monday!!! I'm super duper excited but now I'm panicking about what to wear!!! I'll need inspiration ASAP!! As for today I was a little ho-hum about my outfit. I like the colors together, but I wish the skirt was just a little bigger. I was having trouble kneeling at work to get in my vault and I must've dropped my pen a million times. Kind of annoying. Maybe tomorrow I'll find a replacement for this skirt, while I go thrifting with a friend. We're hitting up the largest Salvation Army in a nearby town, I believe in Fredrick, Va. It's actually a hike, but it will probably be worth it.

Wishful Thinking

I am wishful that I will be able to attend the Chictopia conference come February. I got the email a day ago and it was so serendipitous because I just talking with the hubby that we needed to go to NYC in February. I figured for his birthday I'd take him to the MOMA for the Tim Burton exhibit and we'd finally be able to say "I've been to NYC"! My whole family lives in upstate New York, and a cousin and an uncle in NYC, but I've never been able to make it up there. So sad:( Ha! and you know what's funny! It's almost cheaper to stay in big cities as opposed to smaller cities. Especially when it comes to food. When we went to Chicago in October, we were eating meals that would feed 4 people for only $15! Including awesome Chicago pizza. Eeek! I am so excited that we will be able to go! Since his uncle lives there, I'm sure Zach will be able to keep busy while I'm at the conference. Now it's just a matter of convincing him. Hmmm....what to do?

So here is what I wore today! I found this pretty magenta dress while browsing a goodwill with my sister over the weekend. I love deep berry colors like this. Threw on a white leopard print cardi to give it the sex appeal I need at the bank (totally kidding, but they do encourage flirting with customers...which I don't do) and my trusty new flats. Geeze I am in a way better mood then normal. To top it all off! I'm ready for work on time!

What to Wear, What to Wear?

I really have no idea what I should wear today. I'm over this not having an iron thing. Come pay day, that will be exactly what I'm buying for myself! If I was brave enough to take a picture of my room right now, you all would faint. I've taken all of the clothes that were cramped in my drawers and basically piled them on the floor so I knew what needed to be ironed and what didn't. So now I'm basically running out of clothes to wear. It's even harder when I'm trying not to repeat outfits. Well I guess I'll need to think of something quick since I'll be off to work in about 30 minutes. Sometimes pressure is a good thing, right?

And this is what I came up with!

And here is what I dragged out of the closet.
